St. Madeleine Sophie School Recognized as a Common Sense School
We are proud to share that St. Madeleine Sophie School has officially been recognized as a Common Sense School by Common Sense Media, the national nonprofit dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in our digital world. This honor reflects our school’s deep commitment to preparing students to think critically, act responsibly, and stay safe as they learn and create with technology.
At SMS, we know that teaching digital citizenship is a whole-community effort. From classroom lessons to conversations at home, our approach helps students understand not only how to use technology, but how to navigate the challenges that come with it—such as privacy, cyberbullying, media balance, and responsible online communication. With the right guidance, our students learn to take ownership of their digital lives and become positive, thoughtful participants in their communities.
“We applaud the faculty and staff of St. Madeleine Sophie School for embracing digital citizenship as an important part of their students’ education,” said Merve Lapus, Vice President of Education Outreach and National Partnerships at Common Sense Education. “SMS deserves high praise for giving its students the foundational skills they need to succeed in the 21st-century workplace and participate ethically in society at large.”
Our school uses Common Sense Education’s research-based curriculum, developed in collaboration with Project Zero researchers at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. These lessons offer students, educators, and families practical skills related to internet safety, media literacy, online relationships, personal privacy, and more. As part of a curriculum used by more than a million educators across the country, our students benefit from resources that are grounded in real, relevant issues they encounter every day.
“We’re honored to be recognized as a Common Sense School,” said technology teacher and certified Common Sense Educator, Mrs. Miller. “By preparing our students to use technology safely and responsibly, we are giving them the tools they need to thrive in a tech-driven world.”
This recognition strengthens our mission as a school community: to form students who learn with integrity, lead with character, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them—both online and off. We are grateful for the partnership of our families, staff, and students as we continue building a strong culture of digital citizenship at St. Madeleine Sophie School.
