Sister School Visitors
On Thursday, November 2, students gathered to welcome representatives from Avivara, the organization that supports our sister school in Guatemala. Students prepared a book to be taken back to the students there explaining our Schoolwide Learning Expections (SLEs) and a little about life here in the parish. The book was translated into Spanish and will be delivered by Gary Teale, the founder of Avivara, to Escuela Especial de Valle De Durazno, which is outside of Antigua.
After a short presentation by Mr. Teale at the opening the assembly showing how our previous donations have impacted life in the remote village, students explained the book by reading in both English and Spanish.
The purpose for establishing a sister school partnership is to promote global solidarity and help students feel connected to another culture. The relationship is a major thrust in our modeling of Catholic social justice teaching and underscores our SLE of SERVICE.
Donations to our Sister School fund are always welcome but there are specific opportunities to donate on St. Nick Night and Grand Friends’ Day. We are proud of our students’ work in supporting communities that share our similar mission.
